Past Continuous Tense वह काल होता है जिसमें कोई कार्य भूतकाल में किसी समय पर हो रहा था, लेकिन वह कार्य तब भी अधूरा था।
इसमें हम उन कार्यों की बात करते हैं जो बीते हुए समय में किसी निश्चित क्षण पर जारी थे।
हिंदी में पहचान:
वाक्य के अंत में आमतौर पर “रहा था, रही थी, रहे थे” जैसे शब्द होते हैं।
यह tense यह बताता है कि कोई काम भूतकाल में चल रहा था, लेकिन उस समय खत्म नहीं हुआ था।

- वह खाना बना रही थी।

सकारात्मक वाक्य (Affirmative Sentences)
Structure:
Subject + was/were + verb की -ing form + object
Examples:
- I was reading a book. – मैं किताब पढ़ रहा था।
- She was cooking food. – वह खाना बना रही थी।
- They were watching TV. – वे टीवी देख रहे थे।
नकारात्मक वाक्य (Negative Sentences)
Structure:
Subject + was/were + not + verb की -ing form + object
Examples:
- He was not sleeping. – वह सो नहीं रहा था।
- We were not playing. – हम खेल नहीं रहे थे।
- I was not working. – मैं काम नहीं कर रहा था।
प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य (Interrogative Sentences)
Structure:
Was/Were + subject + verb की -ing form + object + ?
Examples:
- Were you watching a movie? – क्या तुम फिल्म देख रहे थे?
- Was she crying? – क्या वह रो रही थी?

- हम झगड़ नहीं रहे थे। – We were not fighting.
- क्या वह तुम्हारा नाम ले रहा था? – Was he taking your name?
- मैं उस दिन बाज़ार जा रहा था। – I was going to the market that day.
- वह जोर-जोर से बोल रही थी। – She was speaking loudly.
- हम पुराने गाने सुन रहे थे। – We were listening to old songs.
- वे कंप्यूटर चला रहे थे। – They were using the computer.
- मैं शाम को घर आ रहा था। – I was coming home in the evening.
Past Continuous Tense का प्रयोग भूतकाल में चल रहे कार्यों को दर्शाने के लिए किया जाता है।
इसमें “was/were” के साथ “verb + ing” लगाकर वाक्य बनाए जाते हैं।
