Past Continuous Tense tells us about something that was happening in the past. It connects two times together in the past. One to the action being done and the other to the time when it was being done. It is easy to use. Therefore it is very handy to use in writing and speaking.
When you say, “I was reading a book,” it tells us that the reading action was ongoing in the past. But it was not finished.
This tense tells us what happened at some point in the past before now.

What Is Past Continuous Tense
